Who are they?
The Senior Help Line is a confidential listening service available nationally for older people. On the other end of the line are the Senior Help Line volunteers, who are all trained older people.
From their website, their vision is, “is that every older person in Ireland would know the LoCall number, call if they need us and receive an empathic response”.
What do they offer?
They offer advice, information, and most importantly an empathetic ear to older people in Ireland for the price of a local call in Ireland. No landline call costs more than 30 cent.
Their lines are open every day from 10 am to 10 pm, 365 days a year, including Christmas Day, St Stephen’s Day and New Year’s Day. Senior Help Line remains open when many statutory services are closed, and is recognised as a primary health care service helping to support older people in their community.
They also advocate for older people nationally, representing their needs, concerns and wishes to media, the general public, politicians, and key stakeholders.
